Palais Trautson Vienna’s Historic Baroque Treasure

To see a marvelous visual delight, go to the Trautson Palace (Palais Trautson) located at Museumstraße 7. The palace was built in 1712 for Johann Leopold Donat von Trautson, the first Prince of Trautson. The palace was an asset of the noble Trautson family until it was bought by Marie Therese in 1760 for housing the Hungarian guard. After that, the palace was bought by Austria State from Hungary as the Ministry of Justice. The palace continues to provide office space for the Austrian Ministry of Justice today.
The Palais Trautson was constructed by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach and is one of the best Baroque palaces in Vienna. The palace has fantastic and fascinating decorations on the outside. There are statues on the roof, above the gate, and above the doors of the ground floor. You will certainly want to see the bas-reliefs on the eardrums of the windows and many other lovely details on the façade. The gardens, designed by Jean Trehet, are specially planned on the right-hand side of the palace (when facing it). Everything is glued together by the magnificent columns and the Corinthian parastas, which give the palace a unique and forceful personality.
