Stadtpark Vienna

Stadtpark Vienna

If you’re in search of the perfect spot to take a souvenir photo, Vienna’s Stadtpark is it – at the base of the golden Johann Strauss monument, which is one of the globe’s most photographed statues. Also found in the Stadtpark, are memorials to Franz Schubert, Franz Lehar and Robert Stolz, a marble sculpture of the artist, Hans Makart, bronze busts of composer, Anton Bruckner, Vienna Mayor, Andreas Zelinka, under whose leadership the Stadtpark was designed, and numerous others. This makes the Stadtpark the most affluent park in Vienna for monuments and sculptures. Meadows, flower beds, the sporadic exotic tree and a great pond render the Stadtpark a green haven amidst the bustle of the city. Opened in 1862 after the old city wall was razed and the Ringstraße built, it was Vienna’s first public park.
